Welcome to the Regional Authority FrankfurtRheinMain!
The Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region is one of the most important European metropolitan regions in economic terms, and is mentioned in the same breath as London, Paris or Milan. It offers attractive jobs and is an international hub for goods, services, financial and information flows. The quality of life here is high, with a concentration of urban spaces, culture and recreation areas. The region is also charming with its diversity of towns and municipalities and different types of landscape, and is on its way to becoming a sustainable region.
The Regional Authority FrankfurtRheinMain was created by the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region Act passed by the Hesse State Parliament, which came into force on 1 April 2011. We are a constituted body controlling and co-ordinating regional development. We are also the platform for the strategic orientation and aims of regional organisations. In addition we are responsible for the development of a common regional image. Moreover, we draw up and update the regional land development plan and the landscape plan. On top of that we carry out regional monitoring, raise funding, and offer our member local authorities a comprehensive service.
This raft of duties and responsibilities calls for close collaboration between all the players. All 75 member local authorities are represented in the Association Chamber. The District Administrators of Groß-Gerau, Hochtaunus, Main-Kinzig, Main-Taunus, Offenbach und Wetterau are on the Regional Board, as are the two mayors of Frankfurt and Offenbach, cities administered as independent districts. We also aim to incorporate the remaining players in the metropolitan region: regional policy no longer ends at administrative borders; the strengths of the entire region must be pooled to vie with the other metropolitan regions. Our mission is to make the region sustainably fit in the future competition for the best minds, green ideas, investments and jobs.
